Busy. Busy. Busy.

I’ve been slacking on keeping up with my posting lately. It’s probably because we’ve been super busy at work this month, and I’ve been trying to get my act together to travel home for the holidays! I am so excited to go home!!

At College Summit recently I  have (finally) had the opportunity to get to know some of my kiddos. I have been meeting with them one on one at two of the 5 schools I work in and that has been a really nice transition. I was starting to feel like I didn’t get enough time with individual kids, and was sort of just wasting time. Its been nice to have some more flexibility in my schedule and to be able to pull kids from classes to work with them on their applications for scholarships and colleges.

AmeriCorps work has been a little less tedious, but still time consuming. We have to keep records on all the kids we work with including their skill sets and what they are lacking in and how we plan to help them over come their obstacles. All this is in the format of a semi-complicated excel worksheet that Im not 100% familiar with.

We had team Friday last week which included two very long trainings on things that I am already well versed in. Students with mental and behavioral disabilities, and also best practices for working with LGBTQ youth. As a former teacher, I already know this stuff, so I found myself really struggling to pay attention! The speaker for the LGBTQ youth training was really informative and good though, so that one was easier to pay attention to and I feel like I learned some valuable information from her.

I have been really stressing over Christmas and buying presents and trying to make everyone happy that I have forgotten what Christmas is really all about. Its not about any of that garbage, but about the memories we make with our loved ones. Im really excited over who I get to spend the holidays with this year, I get to spend time with my niece who I havent seen in forever and my stepsiblings and I am really excited. So I’m working on decreasing the stress factor and increasing the enjoyment factor… and now, I’m late for work. Gotta run! xoxoxox

AHHHHHH Christmas is coming

Its a scary thing right? Kind of like “Bigfoot is coming!” “Jaws is coming!” I am not ready. I have not shopped (of course I have no money so there’s that), I have not baked any cookies to date, and I have not finished all the cute and crafty projects I would like to have done before the big day.

oh man. tick tock.
